When it came to designing the logo for Dozo I felt that it was important to execute it in a way which communicated the Japanese theme as well as the fact that the restaurant is aimed at working professionals, it had to look sophisticated yet still quirky.
I have messed around with the design, but had decided to stick with the idea of using Chop sticks to create the 'Z', and i have created all other shapes out of a Filled Semi Circle, Originally inspired by the small circular shaped bowls popular within Japanese and Asian Culture.
Within some of the Logos I have used this triangle shape as negative space within the Letter forms, I used these as i thought they looked like a similar shape to Conical Hats worn across asian and particularly in Japan on Rice Paddies.
However after have a small crit, the feedback lead me to stick to the more simple design, with filled in shapes and chopsticks to create the Letter Z. This logo will be applied across the Branding of Dozo. In the chosen colour palette.
I found that the thinner chopsticks worked better with the Logo, as they are more elegant and show sophistication and maturity.
